Description

At the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, vital healthcare assets and supply chains were pushed to the breaking point. With a sudden surge in ventilator demand, there was a distinct need for bridge devices to serve patients in case the ventilator supply was exhausted. To meet demand, researchers, engineers and clinicians from the University of Minnesota Earl E. Bakken Medical Devices Center and the UMN Department of Anesthesiology developed a low-cost alternative to traditional ventilators and quickly collaborated with Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and UnitedHealth Group to produce 3000 Coventors in 67 days.
